Those who know me well know I am going through a rather difficult time in my life. We all have highs and lows. We all suffer joy and pain. We all bear with life’s ups and downs as best we can. For the past few months, for reasons I won’t divulge, I have experienced more than a little personal pain.
Having the support of a significant number of wonderful, caring, sincere, concerned women friends is helping me immensely. It always does. I share my joys with them, but, more importantly, they allow me to share my worry, grief, angst, and pain. These are not “fair weather friends” or mere acquaintances. I have had plenty of those pass through on the path I walk, and I have long ago learned to distinguish the two kinds of relationships.
This novel we are crafting is really about all of these things….how we women can and do form permanent bonds that transcend competitiveness, jealousy, materialism and superficial things.
I do believe in God. And I do believe that God places people in our lives to help us along on our way, to challenge us, and help us reach our intellectual, emotional, and spiritual potentials. If we can allow ourselves to acknowledge and feel the pain, address and not avoid life’s challenges, and accept the support and assistance of real, true, genuine friends, then we will be better human beings. And, if we are so inclined, perhaps also better writers.
And, by the way, when I do experience all of this support from my women friends, I am unabashedly certain that God is, in fact, female.
